A Short History of the Scuba Tank
In 1988 the Mitchell family had just learned to dive
when they were approached by Dan
Macphearson owner of our precursor "Mac's Dive Shop" who was
ready to move away from Juneau. A deal was struck, and in the spring
of 1989, The Scuba Tank was formed.
The Store was initially located in the Madsen complex
on Glacier Hwy. In the spring of 1991, it was decided to move it to
the Mitchell's garage on Back Loop Road. In March of 1993 the house
burned and we were forced to relocate.
After a short closure to iron out the mess from the
fire and, we reopened in a small garage off an apartment on LaPerouse
Ave.
In 1995, we moved across the street (literally!) into
Al Cook’s warehouse.
Joel managed and operated the store until the summer
of 1998 when Carleen took over as the general manager of the store.
In January of 2000, Dave became a PADI Instructor
and took over teaching for the store. In July of the same year, Dave
and Carleen assumed ownership of the Scuba Tank and in November of 2002,
we moved into our current location just off Glacier Hwy. on Dunn St.
Since assuming ownership, we have worked very hard
to maintain the friendly, personal, and professional service that Joel
and Marge had always provided their customers.
Now a third generation of Mitchell's are active in
the store (we'll not really yet) but, you will see Trace and Cody in
the store with Mom and Dad.
